What is Ionization?

AIRVIA Medical appliances are two-in-one purifiers and ionizers. But what is an ionizer? It is an appliance capable of generating and spreading negative ions. This is the only “active” filtration mechanism used in our appliances. Instead of purifying the air by passing it through the purifier and exposing it to filters or other clean-up technologies, ionization involves spreading negative ions directly in the ambient air. Which allows for real time protection of your whole room.

An ionizer generates a localized electric arc in order to remove positive charges from a neutral molecule. You are then left with a negative ion or anion. These will then be spread in the air via 8 conductive filaments.

AIRVIA Medical uses needlepoint bipolar ionization technology with a 6,0 kV tension. This was developed more than twenty years ago and, contrary to corona discharge ionization, doesn’t produce nocive levels of ozone.

Thanks to an innovative design that uses eight separate conductive filaments, AIRVIA Medical developed a particularly powerful ionization technology without producing ozone. Our appliances produce more than 20 millions ions per cm3 at exit, 6,3 millions at a distance of 1 meter and 0,5 million at a distance of 3 meters. With a total active radius of 5 meters.

What kinds of pollution does ionization target?

Ionization is particularly reputed for its high-efficacy against particulate pollution ( fine particles, nanoparticles and dusts). Due to their polarity, negative ions are highly reactive and fixate themselves to pollution particles with positive polarity. Thus, they will either disintegrate them, or weight them down and make them fall to the floor, far from your lungs.

While it has been studied too little so far, ionization showed promising results1,2 against germs, and particularly the flu virus. Negative ions would attack membranes of bacteria and viruses.

Effects on your well-being

AIRVIA Medical uses a particularly powerful ionization technology reputed for its anti-pollution effects. But this is maybe not the only benefit to be had thanks to this technology. While it has not been proved irrefutably yet, negative ions are commonly associated with a feeling of well-being because of their presence in natural environments such as mountains, forests and waterfalls. There are 100 to 1000 times more negative ions present in the ambient air of a natural space than there is in a city or urban space.

Numerous benefits on health have been highlighted by some studies. They would be capable of boosting your immune system, ameliorate your blood flow and better your quality of sleep.

Thus, contrary to what their name might imply, “negative ions” are actually highly beneficial to your health. On the other hand, positive ions are often indicators of a poor air quality and could have numerous harmful effects. They are associated with stress, tension, and higher fatigue.
